A Modification of a Michael’s Idea

Michael’s Mason Jar Curling Ribbon

I cheated and did a very simple version of this with clearance sale plastic mason jar knock offs from Deals for $2 each.  The one with the ribbon works very well without ever getting tangled.  The one with yarn can only be used with small amounts, but using it just for wrapping presents works very well.

Christmas Tree Skirt

https://www.flickr.com/photos/sandiesry/15614768330/

I’ve been making our Christmas tree skirt for this year.  I didn’t really follow this pattern completely, but the part I used in underneath and I included a link to the pattern also.   I decided I liked the skirt plain since we never have a tree without presents under it right away.

Pattern I used:

Row 1: Dc in 5th ch from hook, * 1, dc in next ch; rep from * across; turn.

Row 2: Ch 4, skip ch-1 sp, * dc in next dc, 2 dc in next ch-1 sp, dc in next dc, ch 1, skip next ch-1 sp; rep from * to last st; dc in 3rd ch of ch-4; turn – 12 groups of 4 dc.

Row 3: Ch 4, skip ch-l sp, * [dc in next 2 dc, ch 1] twice, skip next ch-l sp; rep from * to last st; dc in 3rd ch of ch-4; turn.

Row 4: Ch 4, skip ch-l sp, * dc in next 2 dc, 2 dc in next sp, dc in next 2 dc, ch 1, skip next sp; rep from * to last st; dc in 3rd ch of ch-4; turn – 12 groups of 6 dc.

Row 5: Ch 4, skip ch-1 sp, * [dc in next 3 dc, ch 1] twice, skip next sp; rep from * to last st; dc in 3rd ch of ch-4.

Row 6: Ch 4, skip sp, * dc in next 3 dc, 2 dc in sp, dc in next 3 dc, ch 1, skip sp; rep from * to last st; dc in 3rd ch of ch-4; turn – 12 groups of 8 dc.

Continue in the manner of the last 2 rows: adding a ch-1 sp at the center of each of 12 groups on right side rows and working 2 dc in that same sp on wrong side rows, until there are 12 groups of 44 dc on last row. The last (wrong side) row would be worked as follows: Ch 4, skip sp, * dc in next 21 dc, 2 dc in sp, dc in next 21 dc, ch 1, skip sp; rep from * to last st; dc in 3rd ch of ch-4 – 12 groups of 44 dc. Fasten off.

Lower Edging-Row 1: With right side facing and larger hook, attach one strand each CB and CC in top of last dc; ch 3, dc in next sp, dc in next dc and in each dc across (skip all other ch 1 sps), dc in 3rd ch of ch-4; turn.

Row 2: Ch 1, (sc, ch 3, sc) all in first dc, * skip next dc, (sc, ch 3, sc) all in next st; rep from * across. Fasten off.

Center Opening Edging: With right side facing and larger hook, attach CB/CC at opening; ch 1, sc evenly up center opening edge, across opposite side of beg ch, and down next edge. Fasten off.

Tie: With larger hook and CB/CC, ch 150. Fasten off. Weave through the ch-1 sps of Row 1. Knot each end. Trim.

A Hamburger Helper

I use a potato masher to make my ground meats perfect for gravies, dips, and sauces.  Works great!

Last days of warm weather here in Missouri so we are grilling a lot. Easy grilled chicken is just marinading frozen boneless, skinless chicken breast in Zesty Italian Salad Dressing (just enough to cover the chicken) overnight (or freeze the chicken in the dressing and it will marinade as it defrosts).

Grill and it is perfect!  Great with pasta salad or baked potato and a green salad.

My friend is decorating her spare bedroom in orange and hot pink.  Looks better than it sounds. I found these lamps at Hobby Lobby and Alice loved them!

She has this gorgeous orange couch and love seat (very retro!) so I am working on an aghan shaped like a huge hot pink star to contrast with the rectangles and squares of the couch.  I think it will be a great Christmas present.

I’ve been using the Walmart Savings Catcher app since July and so far I’ve got $3.53 back in savings.  We probably spend $300 to $400 a month at Walmart on food, cleaning supplies, pet supplies, and odds and ends.

And finally:

Crocheting for my Little Ones

Izzy is sporting an orange crochet collar this month, but I’m going to crochet one more collar with cotton yarn then decide if that will work because using sport, regular, and baby yarn just fuzzes up too quickly on my cat.

Selling Crafts

I made $80.00 just selling jewelry by word of mouth.  I’m excited!  Here is what I sold:

Some of the things I’m going to try to sell:

I’m also going to try to sell cell phone covers that I crochet.  I’ve given a bunch of them away and people always love them.  I sold one for $5.00, but no stylus with it.

White Bathrooms

https://www.flickr.com/photos/sandiesry/15300108016/

I have a white bathroom.  You can easily see why I chose white.  The bathroom is so small that any color in the room crowds and clutters it. The only problem I have with a white bathroom is yellowed wash and towels.  I just bought new bath towels so you can really tell the difference.

https://www.flickr.com/photos/sandiesry/15323160955/

So back to Pinterest I went and I found this solution.  Now I could notice a difference.  Not yet perfect, but much better.  Vinegar makes all the difference, I guess!

https://www.flickr.com/photos/sandiesry/15136465340/

I may have a small bathroom, but I really have a KICK *SS washing machine and dryer now!  We just got them the end of July and they sing like huge music boxes.  Cute.  I love the allergen setting!  My 12 yo son is allergic to dust mites and this is great!

https://www.flickr.com/photos/sandiesry/15322861622

One of my never seem to have time to get started on it projects is a rag rug for the bathroom.  I tore a worn out white sheet into pieces to hook onto a canvas.  I just have not had time to work on it yet.

Hook Rug 1Hook Rug 2

I did make time to make bath mats out of the old towels that started coming apart.  I folded them in two and then sewed three sides like a pillow case, folded it right side out and stitched the fourth side shut.  They are great!  Thick and holding up great in the washer.  Keeps my rug from getting wet at all after three showers (me, my husband, and my 12 yo son).
