Swifter Mop Replacement Pads

I’m a hot water and bleach kind of gal so when I washed my new mop pad it shrunk.  I modified the pattern to make it bigger and allow for shrinkage:

1 ball Lily Sugar’ n Cream cotton yarn

Crochet hook size 5mm or H

Main Piece:  Ch 47 instead of 37;  1 sc in 2nd chain from hook and each ch across.  Turn.  46 sc.  2nd row: *Ch 1.  Working in back loop only of each sc, 1 sc in each sc across.  Turn.  Repeat last row until work from beg measures 6 in instead of 4 in.  Fasten off. *(I got 25 rows).

Sides (make 2):  Ch 12.  1st row:  1 sc in 2nd ch from hook and each sc across.  Turn.  11 sc.  Rep from * to * as in the Main Piece.  Join sides to main piece:  Place 1 side at each end of Main Piece and pin outer edges together.  With RS facing, join yarn with sl st in any corner.  Ch 1.  Work 1 row of sc around the outer edge (through both thicknesses of Side and Main Piece at each end), working 3 sc in each corner.  Join with a sl st for fist sc.  Fasten off.

I made replacement pads for my Swifter Mop and it worked great!  Crocheting in the back loop only makes for great “scrubbing” and can be washed and used over and over again.  I’m very happy with it.  Here is crochet pattern.

These are a few of my favorite things …

Some of my very favorite diy ideas I use all the time in my home and life:

1.)  700 plastic water bottles not throw away into the environment

2.)  Fresh smelling clothing every time I open a drawer

3.)  Plastic shopping bags reused as trash can bags in the bathroom and kept in an empty tissue box

Empty Tussue Box become a great plastic grocery bag holder for trash bags. 50+ bags in a large box

4.)  Fabreeze is still on my shopping list because I use it to help with my son’s allergy of dust mites but now I can spray my own version of air/fabric freshener with no conscious at all.  I think it is like 25 cents per bottle now!

5.)  Wonderful foaming hand soap for the bathroom!  I love the scent of this dish soap!

and for the kitchen:

6.)  My tub shower is spotless and smooth. This was so simple! Fill wand with half and half solution of Dawn and White Vinegar. Wet surface and scrub. Leave wand in shower so that you just scrub while you are in there! I’m unable to stand very long without pain and this has made a BIG difference in my life/ability to clean house.
